In 1995, the Rutland Morris hosted the 262nd meeting of the Morris Ring. The Ring brings together not just the familiar Cotswolds styles of morris dancing, but also other men's dance forms such as the sword and clog traditions.
The most spectacular event was the exhibition dancing in Uppingham Market Square which was being closed to traffic for the occasion. This was on Saturday, starting at 4.30 pm. Individual clubs performed their own dances and there were also several massed dances of more than 100 dancers.
Sides travelled to Rutland from as far afield as Durham, Chester, Sussex and Cornwall. In fact, Rutland proved such a popular venue that we had to turn down several sides' applications to visit.
